The Process - from TYPO3 to Print

All data is usually maintained in TYPO3 and can be selected using CMP3. The output can either be a printable PDF or it can be processed in a desktop publishing program (e.g. InDesign). When selecting the data, templates for the printed output can be chosen.

The following chart shows the workflow in CMP3.

Data Source

There are different types of data in TYPO3 that printed products can be created from.

  • TYPO3 standard content elements on pages
  • Data from TYPO3 modules such as tt_products, tt_news, seminars, or customized developments
  • Data from other sources

Data Selection

Following a given set of rules, you can select content for the printed product. This way not all TYPO3 data has to necessarily be chosen for the print ed output.

Here are some possible selections:

  • Manual selection from the editorial interface
  • Pages and subpages
  • Element types or exclusion of content elements (e.g. no videos)
  • Data records (e.g. just news)
  • Data based on other criteria (e.g. date)
  • and much more ...

You can also select data from files that can be inserted before or after the TYPO3 data, like a title page before the PDF.

Template

A template determines how the selected data will appear in the printed product.

Creating the Printed Product

In the final step the printed product is generated using the previously collected data. Depending on the requirements several ways of output may be of interest.

The most common output versions are a PDF for immediate production and the data to be transferred to InDesign for further editing (e.g. to place ads within the text).
